Traditionally, the President of each year’s show will choose a charity and all of the proceeds raised from the show day auction goes to that chosen cause.

Our President for the 2026 show, Martin Wallis, has nominated The League of Friends of The Helston Community Hospital as his chosen charity.

This is the second consecutive year that The League of Friends of The Helston Community Hospital has been chosen as the President’s Charity. As the show presidency changes annually, it is especially meaningful that this charity has been so highly valued by the family of our 2026 President. It is a truly worthy cause that plays an important role in our local community. The charity will also be hosting its own stall at the show and is very much looking forward to attending.

HISTORY OF THE HOSPITAL

The Helston Community Hospital was built in 1923 funded by the people of Helston as a War Memorial to those who lost their lives in the First World War. Helston and District lost over 200 men in the First World War. Many of those who returned had lost limbs, suffered exposure to gas or were severely traumatised by their experiences. In 1919, after consider discussion, it was decided to erect a Cottage Hospital, as a central War Memorial for Helston and District to be called “The Helston and District Cottage Hospital War Memorial.

The Hospital was opened on Monday 21 May 1923 by Brigadier General The Right Hon. Lord St Levan supported by the Bishop of Truro.
